According to data from the Center for Neighborhood Technology, most low income Nevadans are not only housing cost burdened, they are also transport cost burdened.

Allegiance Apartments opened September 2019 in Las Vegas, providing 49 units of new affordable veteran’s preference housing.

Additional units for the Nevada Community Enrichment Program will help house and treat 22 more individuals with neurological deficits. The program saves money as compared with out-of-state options.

The Census Bureau’s American Community Survey asks respondents to report both housing costs and income. This allows us to estimate what the household incomes were for the occupants of rental housing of various rent ranges, that is, we can see “who lives where.”

Yesterday the Village at Sage Street held a grand opening. The property provides an additional low cost housing option with 224 dorm style rooms for area residents. Rent will be $400 a month and applications are still being taken as of this writing.

A new 360-unit apartment complex called Steamboat by Vintage will be opening this October in south Reno. The one, two and three bedroom units are available and applications are still being taken as of August 2019.

La Comunidad de Viviendas del Norte de Nevada finalizo el gran proyecto de viviendas razonables o económicas en la Calle Cuatro en el área de Plaza en la Ciudad de Reno. La conversión de espacios comerciales en viviendas añadirá 22 unidades con un nuevo total de 72 estudios de una y dos recámaras.

En la ceremonía de inaguración del Proyecto de construcción de los Apartamentos Willie J. Wynn celebrado el 21 de Mayo de 2019, la Alcaldesa de Reno Schieve agradeció a muchas personas y organizaciones involucradas en este proyecto de vivienda. Unos de los portavoces fue el Concejal Oscar Delgado, Jeff Jacobs de Jacobs Entertainment, Amy Jones de Reno Housing Authority y el Pastor William John Wynn II compañado de Patricia Wynn-Tau, el nieto e hija de Willie J. Wynn.

As homeownership increased before the Great Recession, both the U.S. and Nevada reached a low point for percentage of households renting a home in 2006: 38% of Nevada’s households rented a home while for the United States as a whole 32.7% rented. From 2006 the percentage of households renting a home increased until 2014 for Nevada and 2015 for the United States when it reached a high of 46.4% and 37% respectively. The last few years the percentage of households renting has dropped for both regions to 43.4% for Nevada and 36.1% for the United States in 2017 according to Census Bureau estimates.

A new 44-unit affordable senior housing project, the Willie J. Wynn Apartments, broke ground May 21st, 2019 in Reno. Mayor Schieve spoke at the ceremony. Leasing will begin in Spring 2020.
