Uptick in Nevada Housing Insecurity in Census Pulse Data

Experimental Census Bureau Pulse Data Measures Housing Insecurity

In an effort to rapidly produce data that records the experience of households during the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Census Bureau and other federal agencies have produced and published the experimental Household Pulse Data.

In one summary measure of housing insecurity for October 14 to 26, 15% of Nevada adults were not current on rent or mortgage payments or have slight or no confidence that their household can pay next month's rent or mortgage. This compared with 7% of U.S. adults. The previous weeks had measured lower insecurity levels.

Looking at renters and homeowners separately, for the last weeks of October, Nevada renters were more likely to not be current on the rent (28%) than Nevada homeowners were likely to not be current on their mortgage (11%). Renters were also more likely to say that they had no or slight confidence that they could pay rent next month (39%) than renters were likely to say they had no or slight confidence that they could pay the mortgage next month (11%).
