Desert Apartments, Tonopah Receive Renovation

Rural Nevada Apartment Spotlight:
Desert Apartments, Tonopah - Immediate Availability

At the junction of U.S. Routes 6 and 95 – and approximately midway between Las Vegas and Reno – is Tonopah, Nevada. Circa 1900, prospector Jim Butler discovered the area. Legend says he went looking for a burro that had wandered off during the night and sought shelter near a rock outcropping. He named the high-desert community from what is thought to be a Shoshoni language word, pronounced “Toe-nuh-pah,” meaning “hidden spring.” And while burros and old saloons (Wyatt Earp is said to have opened the Northern Saloon in 1902), have long been replaced by modernities, Tonopah continues to be a fixture in the rural (if not frontier) landscape of Nevada.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) purchased two Tonopah apartment complexes in 2018 -- the Belmont Apartments and the Desert Apartments -- with the vision of bringing them up to speed in terms of safety, security, efficiency and overall appearance. Extensive renovations turned the 35+ year old apartment complex/community into one of the best affordable housing options in Tonopah. NRHA is comprised of experts in the development and management fields whose mission is to care for affordable properties for the long-term, benefiting hundreds of residents throughout the rural parts of the state for years to come.

Desert Apartments is a USDA Rural Development Section 515 project and has one- and two-bedroom units available now, with full sliding scale rental assistance.
