Tools for Renters

NVHousingSearch.org has a handy rent calculator. Look under “helpful tools” on the housing search page (where the search form with the three tabs “Basic”, “Advanced” and “Accessible” is). Click on “What can you afford to rent?”, then fill in the number of people in your family, your family income, whether or not you have a voucher, and the number of bedrooms you need. Push “go” and the calculator will find the maximum amount of monthly rent appropriate for your income. Then you can click “see what’s available” to look at housing that might suit your family size and budget. Under the rent calculator, there are also tools to help you calculate your moving costs, a checklist to use when you are inspecting places you’d like to rent, and a budget worksheet to help you think about your monthly expenses.
