Southwood Apartments, Yerington

Rural Nevada Apartment Spotlight:
Southwood Apartments, Yerington – Nights at home in the country

The stars come out in Yerington! From seeing the biggest names in country music who entertain thousands of fans each year at the “Night In The Country” music festival to having the best views of the Milky Way, there is no better seat in the house than in your backyard in Yerington. While offering the best of laidback country living, Southwood Apartments residents have direct access to Lyon County human services, senior center, Veterans resources, a fully equipped and staffed hospital, plus more conveniences of a larger town.

150 years after settlers discovered the fertile grounds along the Walker River, cattle farming and agriculture is still the lifeblood of the community with its fields of produce, grass, hay and the number one producer of onions in the state. But if it had not been for the hopes for a railroad coming through the heart of Mason Valley, Yerington might still be called “Greenfield.” In 1894, in an attempt to flatter H.M. Yerington, a prominent state politician who was in a position to decide the route of the C&C Railroad connection, which would bring the town more business, the locals changed the name of the town “Yerington.” The promised railroad did not come to fruition, but the name stayed!
