Valley Springs provides affordable housing with net-zero solar array

Valley Springs Open in Carson City

Northern Nevada Community Housing (NNCH) opened its newest property last year in August in Carson City. Valley Springs is a new veterans’ preference family property with 26 one bedroom apartments and 36 two bedroom apartments.  Twelve of the units are set aside as permanent supportive housing with preference for special needs veterans. Apartments include exterior storage closets and EnergyStar appliances. One hundred percent of the property’s electricity needs are supplied by the largest solar panel array NNCH has installed to date, estimated by NV Energy to be at net zero energy consumption. The property is designed with patios and balconies facing a central courtyard, creating a secure community feeling. Within the courtyard are recreation areas, play equipment and garden beds for residents. Community amenities include meeting room, warming kitchen, library, exercise room and computer center. Community wireless internet is available for no additional cost.

NNCH is a non-profit Community Housing Development Organization whose mission it is to develop, own and manage high-quality affordable housing coupled with supportive services. NNCH currently owns and manages sixteen affordable properties in Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Fernley.
