Patriot Place – A New Home for Nevada’s Heroes
While there are many positive programs and services available to our veteran population in Nevada, there continues to be a shortage of high quality living quarters for our community heroes. That’s why affordable housing developer Accessible Space, Inc. gets a gold star for its snazzy new apartment community, Patriot Place, designated for low-income, homeless and disabled veterans.
Located on south Pecos Road, Patriot Place contains 41 one-bedroom apartments and 9 two-bedroom units. The development was built in part with low income housing tax credits through the state Housing Division. Half of the community is designed to be suitable for veterans who have disabilities and require special amenities to ensure safety and accessibility. Those units include oversized wheel-in showers, roll-under counters and cook tops, and adjustable closet shelves.
The warm and inviting living quarters are outfitted with state of the art amenities including washer and dryers, kitchen appliance and spacious living rooms and bedrooms. A sparkling glass chandelier graces the foyer bringing attention to the sweeping stair case leading to the second floor. The luxury of the common areas make residents and guests feel at home with spacious community rooms and library/lounge, a therapeutic spa, and patio. Residents are also welcome to take advantage of the computer lab, exercise rooms and grounds adorned with lush landscaping.
Creating space that veterans can be proud to call home is one of the hallmarks of Accessible Space, Inc. It’s no secret that affordable housing is at a record low making it even more difficult for veterans and other low-income citizens to find decent housing at a reasonable price. The 2017 Southern Nevada Homeless Census counted 6,490 homeless individuals, 691 of whom were veterans. Of those homeless veterans, 63 percent of them reported having at least one disabling condition. The veteran residents at Patriot Place receive a voucher to pay their rent through a partnership between the United States Veterans Administration and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Additionally, Accessible Space provides on-site supportive services to residents who need assistance in becoming self-sufficient, including assistance with eating, dressing, bathing, grooming and homemaker services.
