On May 31, 2023, members of Nevada Housing Division (NHD) staff had the opportunity to attend the private ribbon cutting ceremony and tour the facility for the Golden Rule Senior Apartments. Located at 820 N. Eastern Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89101, this new building provides beautiful one- and two- bedroom apartments for low-income Nevada residents over the age of 55. It was a day of celebration with words of congratulations from the host, Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada (NHSSN), the developer of this project. During the ceremony NHSSN received many accolades from dignitaties and community stakeholders alike, as this is the first development of its kind for this organization.

During a time when there is so much need for safe affordable housing for our most vulnerable population, the Golden Rule is a welcome addition not only to the city of Las Vegas, but to the community where it is located. Phase II of the project opened boasting 60 below market rate rental units that are fully leased and is expected to have full occupancy by the end of the month. Long time NHSSN program client and new tenant of the Golden Rule shared her personal testimony, detailing her struggles with housing insecurity and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to call the Golden Rule her home. 

As with many Affordable Housing developments in Nevada, the Golden Rule was a collaborative effort, with funding sources across mutiple jurisdictions, including the Nevada Housing Divison. Contributions from NHD include National Housing Trust Funds and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, totaling over $2.3 Million in funding. Phase II of the Golden Rule, which will add an additonal 60 units to the project and is a recipient of the Home Means Nevada Inititive awards, is estimated to open by the end of 2023.
